While time is short, the sponsors, Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) and Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA 3rd), are working to move the measures while awaiting a possible resolution on the “Fiscal Cliff” before the end of the year.
The House bill would authorize the Attorney General to issue grants to conduct campus safety research and training, and includes a “rule of construction” allowing K-12 schools to benefit from the Center – something new added following the Sandy Hook School shooting.
Senator Warner introduced S. 3682 on December 13th with 7 bi-partisan co-sponsors including Illinois Republican Mark Kirk. Congressman Scott introduced H.R. 6691 on December 20th with 2 bi-partisan co-sponsors including Virginia Republican Frank Wolf (10th District).

Please help spread the word about this, and continue to encourage Representatives and Senators to support the measure now, and in the next Congress if necessary. Please also consider sharing my Huffington Post blog post below about it. It was written prior to the Sandy Hook School shooting, and timed to coincide with Warner’s re-introduction of the bill so it doesn’t have the latest information, but it is still a good summary, and timely. There are options on the page to share on facebook and twitter, and also please consider sharing with any lists you may belong to.
